Variable Speed to RIO, DH+ or Modbus
Serial communications to adjustable speed drives is a concept that can save many dollars in engineering, manufacturing, installation, start-up, and troubleshooting costs; however, developing the actual interface between drives and a PLC can be a prohibitive task, particularly on a one-time basis. The SCIP-U is designed to simplify this problem.

Now, interfacing the Siemens SIMOREG© DC and SIMOVERT P© AC drives to Allen-Bradley and Modicon programmable controllers is as simple as adding any other device to their remote data links. The SCIP-U performs the complex protocol conversions, remaining transparent to the programmer or operator.

All of the Advantages:
The SCIP-U provides a multi-drop RS485 bus interface to up to 31 Siemens adjustable speed drives. The serial interface is full-functioning, including:

  • Full control of drive parameter values... to monitor or change them
  • Control of normal drive functions, such as Run, Stop, Jog, and Speed
  • Operating status monitoring, and reporting of fault codes
  • Additional control features, including remote fault reset, M.O.P. or torque control, dependent on the specific drive and configuration

    None of the Disadvantages:
  • No custom communication drivers required
  • No complex, custom software is needed
  • No controllers that are unfamiliar to your maintenance people
